Nanyun Interchange Opens to Bustling Traffic that Effectively Solves the Traffic Jam Problem in Zhushan and Lugu Areas
The newly constructed Nanyun Interchange was added to National Highway No. 3 on 2nd May this year. The inaugural ceremony was held on the same day when Vice President Wu Tun-Yi arrived on site. After the interchange is opened to traffic at the south end in Zhushan town, it can solve the traffic jam problem on holidays in Zhushan and Lugu areas. It will help a lot to activate local economic development and the convenience of road transport.

The inaugural ceremony began as the bustling lion dance arrived on site. County Mayor Lin Ming-Chen, together with other honorable guests such as Legislator Hsu Shu-Hua, MOTC Administrative Deputy Minister Fan Chih-Ku, National Freeway Bureau Secretary Chen Yen-Po, County Council Chair Ho Sheng-Feng, County Councilor Hsu Su-Hsia, Tsai Yi-Chu as well as Zhushan Town Mayor Huang Tan-Yi, went to the site to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

CM Lin especially gave thanks to VP Wu, former CM Li and other local elected representatives. Owing to their help and contribution, the interchange could successfully complete construction and be opened to traffic. CM Lin said Nanyun Interchange is a mass traffic infrastructure for which he greatly strived to win the bidding during his occupation of legislator. He was very happy to complete the construction and let it open to traffic during his tenure as county mayor. Afterwards, all vehicles coming from the south can directly enter the Zhushan area by heading down to the Nanyun Interchange. It can effectively release traffic from the Zhushan Interchange. In addition, the county government is working on the widening project on TW THW Nantou 55. A few days later, the traffic being bypassed can release traffic from Shan Lin-Shih and Xitou to avoid the traffic jam on County Route 151 and Baojia Rd.

VP Wu said the local government had reacted to such issues as the Nanyun Interchange and was actively looking for a place while he was serving as a legislator 10 years ago. He was very happy that the construction was finally finished today and that it can be opened to traffic with everyone’s hard work under the transaction actively carried out by the county government. He can make his dream of nearly a decade come true.

National Freeway Bureau Secretary Chen Yen-Po pointed out, while doing a brief presentation, that Nanyun Interchange is located at a place between National Highway No. 3 and Douliu Interchange. It started its construction in April 2014 with a total funding at an amount of 0.608 billion dollars for the project in addition to a 2011 approved plan. It is a single-point (SPUI shape) interchange. After it is opened to traffic, the interchange can be incorporated into the living circles of Nantou, Yunlin, and Changhua county/city. It can effectively promote the tourism development as a whole as well as activating local economy. The new-built Nanyun Interchange is about 2 km away from its access road. It connects to Taiwan Provincial Highway 3 to the east. The locale can save about 15 to 20 minutes if they drive to this interchange from a nearby location compared to a substitute route by taking the Zhushan or Douliu Interchange.
