County Government Went to the Four Countries in North Europe for a City-to-City Exchange to Share Research Result Holding a Press Conference
CM Lin Ming-Chen went to the four countries in northern Europe of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark with 7 village chiefs and town chiefs in late April to do research. They not only got to know about the local construction, but also developed a city-to-city exchange. A press conference was held on the 17th this May to share their experience on the result. CM Lin said the social welfare and construction in north Europe is worthy of imitation for the Nantou county. For the future policy, the county government will consider learning from the successful experience of northern Europe to pursue sustainable development.
A “tourist capital” has always been the top priority in setting goals for CM Lin’s policy. However, it requires innovation and creativity to survive through sustainable development. One should not work behind closed doors if one wants to develop tourism and construction. CM Lin gave a proposal on the meeting of mayors and town mayors by addressing a point last year. He hopes that the county government can lead the team to go abroad doing research. The government can absorb the successful local experience via the exchange activities and consider the Nantou county affairs for groundwork.
In visiting Norway, CM Lin was most interested in the mountaineer railway. He thought there is always some traffic issue on the way to Zhushan and Xitou. It not only causes a problem in the local area, but also sets some limitation to tourism development. The mountaineer railway experience is worthy of imitation and Nantou county should learn how to follow up.
Arriving at the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, they visited the first city on earth that reached the goal of carbon emission reduced by half, the city of Hammarby Sjöstad. It is an environmentally friendly space for living. It can solve any problems about water, sewage, or trash. It can even transform these wastes into the required energy used for living. CM Lin hopes that he can borrow such experience and create an eco-friendly community due to environmentally friendly concerns. For future urban plan of Nantou County, he may consider green energy so it may fit in the trend of this era.
CM Lin said the smart city Kalassatama in Finland is also a very advanced city. With the large project for building towns, he expected there would be 8000 open positions for the jobs as well as places to live in which may accommodate about 20,000 people in 2030. For future development in the hot-spring area in Fusing Village, Puli, he suggested that the government refer to the experience of other smart cities for building. It will allow the 50-hectare hot spring area to become a vital tourist attraction.
As for the disposable cargo containers used by Denmark, these wastes can build up a college community that may save the energy, keep our environment clean, and allow high-mobility. CM Lin also said that by applying houses made of cargo containers, the local people in Nantou could have a true feeling about the inevitable force majeure caused by natural disasters in Taiwan. In addition to carrying out the labor to take precautions against natural calamities, the government should also create correct on how to educate the people to take precautions. Houses made of cargo containers offer a temporary space for shelter for the victims with a fast and effective approach. These are the experiences that are worthy of imitation.
