    The “2016 Lukang Dragon Boat Festival” international dragon boat tournament was grandly begun on the evening on June 9th at Fulu River of Lukang Township. The Nantou County, Taichung City, Changhua County governments as well as Changhua County Council formed a team to take part in the government heads performance contest. Under the leadership of the Nantou County Magistrate Ming-Chen Lin, Vice County Magistrate Cheng-Sheng Chen, and Secretary-General Jui-Chih Hung, the Nantou County Government team reached all the way to the top spot, winning the most enthusiastic applause from audiences on both sides of the contest river!

    Changhua’s international dragon boat tournament was held at night for the first time this year, where the breezy wind attracted a large crowd to see the contest. Changhua County Magistrate Ming-Ku Wei said the number of people has exceeded 30 thousand according to the statistics, bringing huge traffic and crowd to the periphery of the dragon boat tournament. He also hoped that the counties and cities in the central region will promote the tourism strategic alliance in the future to share the prosperity. Jia-Chyuan Su, the President of the Legislative Yuan also commended that dragon boat tournament at night is a combination of tradition with technology, and dragon boat tournament itself is further a sport that accentuates the spirit of teamwork.

    Nantou County Magistrate Lin praised County Magistrate Wei’s pioneering work, County Magistrate Lin stated that it is worthy to learn after Nantou. County Magistrate Lin indicated this year’s Lukang Dragon Boat Festival is very different from the past, where the waterway appeared much more beautiful and attractive under the decorations of lights. Nantou County Vice Magistrate Chen also said that the management of Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, and Miaoli regions allowed the central region to rise, appreciations must be given to the neighboring counties and cities for their assistance, which allowed Nantou’s tourism performance to increase continuously.

    Although the contest between the three counties and cities of the central region was of performance nature, but all county and city governments did their best without negligence, Nantou County lead by County Magistrate Lin did some warm-up exercises before the contest, with County Magistrate Lin as the drummer and vice County Magistrate Chen as the flag catcher, the morale was certainly boosted successfully to seize the championship.

    Other than the dragon boat contest at night, this year, Changhua County Government also launched the “Cosmo Tower” completely made with glass, even the sky is decorated with flying “green-headed duck UVA,” creating an abundant image from the sky to the river.
