Delicious Encounter between Pineapple Pastries and Coffee! Opening for Nantou Delicious Pastry Carnival
The opening events for “My Picnic Era 2.0 – Nantou Delicious Pastry Carnival” and “Taiwan Coffee Beans Evaluation Exhibition” were grandly launched at the Nantou Exhibition Center on June 3rd for a period of 4 days. There were also famous proprietors participating selling representative pineapple pastries and coffees from various regions within the nation. County Magistrate Ming-Chen Lin invited everyone who enjoys coffee to taste Taiwan’s coffee and pineapple pastry, to share the romantic hours of afternoon tea with family.
County Magistrate Lin indicated that the county government is accepting commissions from the Agriculture and Food Agency to undertake the “Taiwan Coffee Beans Evaluation Exhibition,” together with the event on “My Picnic Era 2.0 – Nantou Delicious Pastry Carnival.” The theme based on the beautiful encounter between pineapple pastry and coffee, promoting and marketing Taiwan’s coffee industry and Nantou County’s pineapple pastry six-level industry, thereby conveying Nantou’s characteristic afternoon tea life culture to everyone. It is hoped that this shall enhance the quality of Taiwan’s coffee, to expand the consumer market and stimulate the industry’s sustainable development.
Section Manager Teng-Chao Su of the Agriculture and Food Agency indicated that in order to guide domestic coffee farmers to establish the quality grading concept, and to demonstrate the diversified processing techniques of Taiwan’s coffee, the evaluation exhibition has been organized for three successive years as of 2012. The various counties and cities with coffee productions were entrusted to organize this in turn as of 2015, hoping to stimulate the quality of Taiwan’s boutique coffee beans significantly. The evaluation content for this year include three phases, which adopted physical screening for the preliminary, sensual evaluation for the semi-final and the final. The results were announced on June 6th, with 1 grand prize, 2 first prizes, 3 gold medals and 4 silver medals for the conventional water-wash group and other processing groups.
The venue was filled with coffee fragrance everywhere, attracting many coffee lovers to visit and have a taste. The atmosphere was extremely lively with Senator Mei-Ling Chiu, Chen-Yen Tseng and Guoxing Township Mayor Pu-Sheng Chiu also showing their presence. Moreover, Taiwan Coffee Beans Evaluation Exhibition was also setup on the 2nd floor of the exhibition center, with Che-Hao Lin, the head of the jury leading the 12-people jury team to evaluate the 161 coffee beans participating in the contest.
