Lin Ming-Chen Invited to a Speech in the Rotary Club; Lin Fights for Tourism Capital
CM Lin Ming-Chen was invited to the Rotary Club in Nantou to give a lecture on July 12th. Nearly 100 members attended in the lecture. CM Lin talked freely about how he built up the tourism capital for Nantou with his creative thoughts and action. CM Lin pointed out that the lantern festival would be held in Nantou City next year. He has planned 3 bright spots for the lantern festival, the sand sculpture art festival, and the dinosaur exhibition. It may create a topic for tourism. It is estimated that it will attract 5 million people. Lin hopes to recreate something to make the Nantou City shine and glow.
This county does not have a North-South Railway Line. The top priority is to improve its transportation access. CM Lin said he fought so hard to obtain two interchanges. One is the Nantou Interchange, and the other is the Nantou-Yunlin Interchange during his period working as a legislator. Currently, both are open to transportation. The construction of the old and regular road traffic is nearly completed. It can save time for commuters who travel from Caotun to Taichung. Currently, CM Lin is now working on a plan to connect the Gongye S. Rd. in Nankang Industrial Zone to the Minzu Rd. It is most convenient for people who want to travel to Yijing University and other places for fun as tourists.
Tourism is the main economic vein for Nantou. CM Lin said the 2016 Nantou Lantern Festival would be held in Jiji this year. The county government invested about NT$ 20 million in this event. The amount of visitors has reached 2.94 million in this lantern festival area in Jiji. It is roughly estimated that it will create an economic output value of NT$0.9 billion if each person pays NT$300. The cost benefit will reach 45 times its capital, which is a very good deal.
CM Lin also makes good use of the current resources to exert his creativity. He built a sand sculpture cultural park area in Maoluo River, and he made the most out of the local materials to turn the river sand into an economic golden vein. Lin creates the income for tourism. It is estimated that the construction can be completed by the end of this year before its inauguration. By that time, the people will be able to come to Nantou to appreciate the 2017 Nantou Lantern Festival, join the sand sculpture festival, and visit the dinosaur exhibition. The benefits of tourism will be very impressive.
CM Lin said, “If I don’t do it today, I shall regret it tomorrow.” To build up a tourism capital, the county government works actively to build a new scenic spots for each township, village, and city. It keeps a strict schedule within its control, and strives for working out an “action” of creative thoughts. The government wants to create scenic spots and let them boom everywhere as the flowers in full blossom in Nantou so that the travel industries in each township, village, or city can experience sustainable development. Furthermore, Lin has just reached his half year in his new position. Even though it has suffered from poor financing, the government still works hard to create new investment while saving on expenses. The government has activated the county land to increase the revenue for the county bank. It has allowed the debt to be reduced from NT$20 billion to NT$15.5 billion for the county government. It can also prevent natural disasters such as river floods to increase the source of revenue. The county government also works hard to fight to help the river bureau handle its flood affairs.
