The opening ceremony of 2024 National Disabled Games in Nantou (113年全國身心障礙國民運動會) took place at the Nantou County Expo Center at 6 p.m. on the 25th. County Mayor Hsu ShuHua, the convener of the organizing committee of the event, welcomed the players from various counties and cities to Nantou. Moreover, Cheng LiChiun, Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, Cheng YingYao, Minister of the Minister of Education, and Cheng ShihChung, Director-General of the Sports Administration, attended the ceremony to kick off the event and wish it a grand success.

 

“Nantou County is sincerely honored to host this event with 16 sports in 18 venues. Hereby, I invite Nantou residents to cheer for more than 4,000 players and team members from various counties and cities, presenting the best sports competition environment for disabled athletes with Nantou's special characteristics and the spirit of promoting sports equality,” said County Mayor Hsu.

 

In addition, she expressed her gratitude to the Executive Yuan for great support and recognition. Nantou County has received good results in various sports events, for example, 7th place in the 2024 National Middle School Athletic Games, which is the 1st place other than the special municipality. County Mayor Hsu wished the players success in the competition, and promised that Nantou County will do its best to be the host, enabling everyone to leave the most beautiful memories in the sweaty competitions, enjoy their time in Nantou, and feel the allure of Nantou County as a livable city.

 

The organizing committee mobilized a total of 2,580 personnel, including staffs from 5 departments and 25 groups, sports officials, venue staffs and volunteers, to hold the warmest and the most creative sports event for people with disabilities. This grand event was held under the spirit of "Love Sports with No Barriers" with various Nantou characteristics visualized. At the opening ceremony, Tsai ChengEn, the boccia player participated in the name of Nantou County for the first time, recited the athlete oath while Huang HsinCheng, the track judge, took the referee’s oath. In the other hand, Legislator Ma WenChun, Li MengZhen, Secretary General of Nantou County Council, and many Nantou County councilors presented to participate in the grand event as well.

 

After four days of competition, the closing ceremony of 2024 National Disabled Games in Nantou took place at the Nantou County Expo Center on the 28th. During the event, Nantou County provided attentive service to the participating teams and received high praise. The Flag was then handed over to New Taipei City that will host 2026 National Disabled Games next year.

 

In this sports event, a total of 4,102 players and team members from 21 counties and cities participated. Deputy County Mayor Wang RuiDe expressed his gratitude to Sports Administration, Ministry of Education, for entrusting the Nantou County Government to host this event. Nantou County provides the most considerate and enthusiastic services to all the players and coaches, hoping them enjoy the allure of Nantou County as a livable city.
