As the Lunar New Year approaches, the Nantou County Fire Department held a disaster prevention drill on the morning of the 10th at the Zhushan Farmers' Association Agricultural Products Center to enhance public awareness of fire prevention and disaster response. The drill simulated various emergency scenarios, including fires, car overturns, and casualty rescues, making the rescue personnel feel as if they were facing real dangers. The Fire Department deployed drones and firefighting robots for the rescue operations, which were well-received by the public.

The 2025 119 Expanded Propaganda of Fire Prevention and Mass Casualty Rescue Drill was conducted at the Zhushan Farmers' Association Agricultural Products Center and its parking lot, with Nantou County Mayor Hsu Shu-Hua, County Councilors Chen Yi-Chun and Chen Yu-Ling, along with other officials, attending the event and observing the entire drill.

County Mayor Hsu stated that January 19th is Firefighters' Day, reminding the public to continuously enhance disaster prevention knowledge to ensure safety when needed. During the disaster prevention drill in Zhushan, many volunteers, hospital staff, and school teachers and students participated in or observed the event. In many public security incidents, firefighters charge into the front lines, facing unknown conditions that may result in casualties. With the assistance of robots and drones in rescue operations, the safety of rescue personnel can be significantly improved.

This drill included self-defense firefighting responses in early fire, building fire rescue, ladder and rope rescue, a tea-picking vehicle overturn causing mass casualties, emergency medical rescue and the saving of trapped individuals, and tanker smoking and catching fire. The debut of firefighting robots in the rescue operations drew the attention of everyone present.

During the drill, a fire was simulated at the Agricultural Products Center. In addition to the self-defense firefighting team using fire extinguishers to respond, fire trucks quickly arrived at the scene, set up aerial ladders, and sprayed water to extinguish the fire on the affected floors. Meanwhile, drones were deployed to monitor the situation from above, and the firefighting robots connected to hoses entered the burning building to transmit real-time images, providing critical information for rescue decision-making. In addition, a fire was simulated in a tanker fire truck. The firefighting robots worked alongside firefighters, spraying water to extinguish the flames, creating a highly realistic scenario.

In recent years, the Fire Department has continually purchased firefighting robots and drones for the fire stations located in the industrial area and the mountain area in the county. This technological advancement in disaster response aims to reduce rescue risks. Both the firefighting robots and drones are equipped with video cameras and thermal imaging cameras, allowing real-time viewing of transmitted images on the screen of the remote controller. Additionally, the robots were also equipped with detectors to identify harmful toxic gases, significantly improving safety assurance during rescue operations.
