Nantou Bus Station to Solicit Investment Next Year, Completion Expected by Late 2029, March 19th

To enhance Nantou County's public transportation system, County Mayor Hsu Shu-Hua has prioritized the construction of a local bus transi0

t hub since taking office. The project aims to connect the transportation networks of the county’s townships while offering intercity transfer services. The county government intends to utilize approximately 2,000 pings (around 6,611 square meters) of land at the former site of Taiwan Motor Transport’s Nantou Station, located at the intersection of Fuxing Road and Sanhe 3rd Road in Nantou City. This multifunctional transport hub will include a bus station, commercial spaces, and a parking lot. The station is expected to be completed by late 2029, with operations starting in 2030.

A briefing session for the Nantou Bus Station project was held on March 19th at the proposed site. County Mayor Hsu Shu-Hua presided over the session, which was attended by Legislator Yu Hao, County Councilors Lin Yi-Ru, Lin Ju-Yang, Chang Wan-Tzu, Shen Su-Cheng, Wu Chi-Nan, Tsai Tsung-Chih, as well as Nantou City Mayor Chang Chia-Che, and Nantou Motor Vehicles Station Director Huang Yung-Sung. Several town council members, village representatives, bus operators, and local residents also attended to share their interest in the station's development.

Mayor Hsu highlighted that the old Nantou Station site is a prime location in Nantou City, and its future use has long been a long-standing concern for residents. The county government is focused on integrating bus and taxi services and expediting the station’s construction. Once completed, the hub will offer improved convenience for residents traveling out of town or returning home, while also bolstering tourism. Beyond transportation, the station will feature entertainment and cultural spaces to energize the city center. In the interim, the vacant site will be repurposed into a parking lot with 180 spaces to alleviate parking shortages in Nantou City, as investment solicitation begins next year. Mayor Hsu also extended gratitude to Legislator Yu Hao for securing subsidies from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for southbound bus routes and to the County Council for their ongoing support of transportation initiatives.

In 2024, the county’s Transportation Office began the land acquisition process for the Nantou Bus Station, using the site of the former Taiwan Motor Transport’s Nantou Station. Following this, steps were taken to solicit private investment and promote participation in public infrastructure projects. Public hearings were held in compliance with regulations, and agreements were reached with the landowner for the purchase of the site. By the end of February 2025, the land ownership transfer was finalized, granting the county government full ownership.

On March 19, a briefing session was held at the proposed site to present plans for the Nantou Bus Station. Future planning and investment solicitation will adhere to the Act for Promotion of Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects and draw on successful transit hub projects both domestically and abroad while taking into account construction methods employed in counties and cities with similar conditions. The station will integrate facilities for dining, entertainment, retail, tourism, and commerce to provide residents and visitors with diversified travel and transfer services.

The project is currently in the feasibility study phase, with an initial draft and public hearing expected to conclude in April. Preliminary planning will begin in July, with investment solicitation announcements planned for the second half of 2026. Construction is set to commence after the contract is signed with the winning bidder by the end of 2026.
