The Nantou County team delivered an impressive performance at this year’s National High School Games, winning a total of 62 medals, including 18 golds, 16 silvers, and 28 bronzes. On the afternoon of May 22, the County Government held a recognition tea ceremony in the first-floor lobby to honor its outstanding athletes and coaches. Deputy County Mayor Wang Rui-De awarded NT$10.815 million in sports bonuses, expressing gratitude for their dedication and celebrating their remarkable achievements that brought pride to Nantou on the national stage.

Nantou athletes excelled across multiple disciplines, breaking last year’s record of 58 medals. Highlights included karate (7 golds, 3 silvers, 6 bronzes), rowing (6 golds, 5 silvers, 1 bronze), wrestling (2 golds, 4 silvers, 8 bronzes), track and field (2 golds, 1 silver, 2 bronzes), and archery (1 gold). The ceremony also recognized outstanding elementary school athletes at the National Elementary School Athletics Championships: Huang Hao-Nan of Shin-Jie Elementary, who won first place in the boys’ softball throw event, and Chuan Sha-Ma of Shin-Feng Elementary, who excelled in the girls’ division.

 County councilors Chen I-Chun and Chuan Wen-Tsai, Nantou County Sports Association Director-General Hung Ming-Hui, and principals from medal-winning schools attended the event to share in the celebration.

Deputy County Mayor Wang stated that since County Mayor Hsu took office, the county government has actively worked to optimize the local sports environment. By increasing sports incentives, upgrading athletic facilities, bidding for major international tournaments, and deepening grassroots training, the government aims to be the strongest pillar of support for both athletes and coaches. The administration looks forward to seeing Nantou's athletic talent continue to shine on both national and international stages. Wang added that this year’s outstanding performance at the National High School Games proves that every athlete is the pride of Nantou. This recognition banquet serves to share in their honor and joy, while encouraging all athletes and coaches to keep striving for even greater success in the future.

According to the County Government’s Education Department, Nantou’s teams delivered phenomenal performances at this year’s Games. The Nantou Shiuhkuang Senior High School karate team dominated the competition, securing multiple top honors, including the Overall Championship in the High School Boys' Division. Driven by their motto, "The training is exhausting, the journey is grueling, but the dream is crystal clear," the athletes repeatedly staged thrilling, come-from-behind victories, demonstrating incredible mental toughness. Meanwhile, Shui-Li Vocational High School of Commerce and Industry (SLVS) and Shuili Junior High School ruled the rowing events, capturing the Overall Championship in the High School Boys' Division and runner-up honors in the Junior High Boys' Division, respectively. Additionally, the canoeing team from SLVS, the track and field team from National Caotun Commercial & Industrial Vocational Senior High School, and the wrestling teams from Tung Der High School and Caotun Junior High School all ranked among the top tier in the overall standings.

In individual events, Hsu An-Tung from Caotun Vocational clinched the High School Girls' long jump title with a leap of 6.05 meters. This outstanding feat made her Taiwan's first female athlete to break the 6-meter mark this year, while also meeting the Asian Youth Athletics Championships qualification threshold and ranking her fifth all-time in Taiwan’s U18 history. Her schoolmate, Hung Yu-Kun, demonstrated incredible self-discipline by shedding 7 kilograms in the two months leading up to the competition. On the day of the event, despite competing through the pain of torn and bleeding skin on his hand, he threw an impressive 70.95 meters to win the javelin gold and successfully meet the qualification standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships.
