Joint Statement of Nine Women County Mayors Calls for Central Government’s Attention to the Issue May Cause by Electricity Price Increases, March 18th

Power of women creates a better future! The Women Mayors Leadership Alliance, composed of nine women county mayors, gathered in Chung Hsing New Village (中興新村) on the 18th to demonstrate their determination to pursue sustainable development regarding to gender equality in sports, sports environment and environmental sustainability. Moreover, they also raised concerns about the electricity price increase policy of the central government, which may affect national's livelihoods. They issued a joint statement to call on the Executive Yuan to give priority to taking care of the nationals and consider seriously about the electricity price increase policy.


2024 Women Mayors Exchange Session was hosted by Nantou County this year and was held at the International Conference Hall of the Central Taiwan Innovation Campus, Ministry of Economic Affairs on the 18th. The attendees are Hsu ShuHua, Nantou County Mayor, Lu ShiowYen, Taichung City Mayor, Wang HuiMei, Changhua County Mayor, Chang LiShan, Yunlin County Mayor, Huang MinHui, Chiayi City Mayor, Kao HungAn, Hsinchu City Mayor, Lin ZiMiao, Yilan County Mayor, Rao ChingLing, Taitung County Mayor and Hsu ChenWei, Hualien County Mayor.

 

As a host, Nantou County Mayor Hsu ShuHua gave a welcome address. “The concepts of gender equality in sports, sports environment and environmental sustainability will be manifested in this session, which is also a practice of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations,” she said, “Women Mayors are committed not only to creating a better future for our cities in a way with flexibility, tolerance and warmth, but to promoting a sports culture with gender equality and tolerance, enabling all the people to enjoy sports in a liberal and open environment and benefit from physical and mental health.”

 

Due to the fact that people are worried about the skyrocketed commodity prices may cause by electricity price increase policy, the Women Mayors Leadership Alliance proposed impromptu motions. On behalf of the Alliance, Nantou County Mayor Hsu ShuHua made a statement, expecting the central government to pay attention to the price fluctuations caused by electricity price adjustments. Furthermore, Taichung City Mayor Lu ShiowYen will formally present Alliance's opinions and local voices to the central government when she attends the Executive Yuan meeting.
