Content嚗     The 10th Asian Women's Softball Championship began on September 21 in De-Hsin Baseball Stadium in Nantou County. Chairman of Chinese Taipei Amateur Softball Association Yi-Chuan Pan presided over the opening ceremony. Premier Wu, Magistrate Lee, Head of Sport Affairs of Executive Yuan Hsia-Ling Dai, Chief of Asian Softball Association Ming-Chu Liu, Legislative Yuan member Wen-Chun Ma, Ming-Chen Lin were all present. Premier Wu acted as pitcher and Magistrate Lee acted as batter to signify the formal opening of this championship.

    This is the 10th championship and it is the first time that it was held in Taiwan. Premier Wu particularly attended this event as this championship was held in Nantou, the seedbed of Olympic Women's Softball players of Taiwan team. He said that Nantou County Government, Sport Affairs Council, Chinese Taipei Amateur Softball Association and Asian Softball Association have worked together to make it possible to have this championship held in Taiwan. This is the most important sport event this year.

    Magistrate Lee mentioned that sport is on top of the County Government's agenda. Women's Softball is the most important sport for Nantou. There were 13 teams participating the championship this year. He welcomed the players to visit many beautiful places in Nantou. The climate in Nantou is mild and suitable for sport event. In addition to this Asian Women's Softball Championship, Triathlon and Sun-Moon Lake Swimming Event were also held in Nantou. This year is a sport year for Nantou County.

    Yi-Chuan Pan, who is not only the Chairman of Chinese Taipei Amateur Softball Association, but also vice speaker of Nantou County Council, thanked all the units for their assistance in organizing this championship. Chief of Asian Softball Association Ming-Chu Liu greeted the players in English and wished them the best in winning matches.

    The opening ceremony started with the 'Taiwan Dance' and 'Protection Dance' performed by the students of Chung-Hsin junior high school. It was followed by the players of 13 teams entering the stadium. The players of Japan team held a bigger banner with words thanking Taiwan for its generous donation to Japan following the earthquake on March 11.

    Premier Wu took the role as pitcher, and Magistrate Lee took the role of batter. Together they announced the start of the championship. They also shook hands with the players of Taiwan and Indonesia teams, wishing them good luck.

    The 13 teams were Japan, China, South Korea, North Korea, Singapore, Hongkong, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Iraq, Pakistan and Taiwan. 10 out of the 17 players of Taiwan team are from Nantou County. The matches were played in De-Hsin Baseball Stadium and Chao-Kuan Baseball Stadium.
