連至 Construction of Taiwan’s first “Philanthropic Library-Shared Reading Hall” begins and is expected to be completed and opened in 2024, December 2 完整照片 With the support of the Nantou County Government and the general public, the Taiwan Reading and Culture Foundation, which has built 344 “Philanthropic Libraries” and 37 “Digital Philanthropic Libraries” in various townships in Taiwan, will build the first “Philanthropic Library-Shared Reading Hall” in Caotun Township. The ground-breaking ceremony was held on the 2nd. The Shared Reading Hall is expected to be completed and opened in the middle of 2024. On behalf of the county residents, County Magistrate Lin Ming-Chen appreciates the foundation for its dedication to students. He hopes that through the approach of “Library” and “Shared Reading,” the students’ learning effectiveness will be further enhanced.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the “Philanthropic Library-Shared Reading Hall” was presided over by Liao Lu-Li, chairman of the foundation and the blessing ceremony and ground breaking ceremony were held in the presence of distinguished guests. Chairman Liao says the Reading and Culture Foundation and the “Philanthropic Library” originated in Caotun, which were established based on the love of front-line teachers for students who were affected by the great earthquake of September 21. At first, teachers wanted to encourage students to read but had no money to buy books. After nearly 20 years of hard work, the cumulative number of readers has reached 63 million. This time, the “Philanthropic Library-Shared Reading Hall” will be built in Caotun with a grateful heart, hoping to cultivate the reading ability of schoolchildren. Chairman Liao appreciates the county government and people from all walks of life for their support.

County Magistrate Lin says the foundation has built “Philanthropic Libraries” in various locations over the years, which can be said to be the driving force in education for changing the students’ reading habits. Functionalities such as parent-child shared reading, theme shared reading, digital reading, second-hand book exchange and after-school education center for children will be provided in the Shared Reading Hall, which will be very helpful for students’ learning. If there is any need for help during the construction process, the county government will fully support it. Lin hopes that the construction will be carried out smoothly and completed as soon as possible to provide a high-quality reading environment for the public.
