Shoutien Temple
Located at the platform at the southern end of Bagua Mountain, the palace can overlook as far as the Western Plateau and Taiwan Strait. At noon the tea sellers at Pine and Cypress Peak enthusiastically promote their tea to worshippers, who are persuaded to buy some as souvenirs. It reveals the joy and fun of a religious
carnival. At night, the scene here is more fascinating with man, nature and religion coexisting, especially that it carries a devout quietness.
Shoutian Palace was established in the 2nd year of Emperor Chienlung’s Regime in Ching Dynasty (in 1737). It worships the Hsuantian God of the North Pole, which is the center of Taoist religion in Taiwan and whose worshippers are widely spread over Taiwan. Every year from the 12th lunar month to the 3rd lunar month of the following year, all kinds of functions are held in the temple when endless stream of worshippers come over to the palace.
